Biting Into Better Nutrition

The Akron Public Schools have been awarded a $453,481 grant from the Ohio Deptartment of Education's Office for Child Nutrition.   The money is to be used to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to all students enrolled in the 18 Akron elementary schools selected to participate.

This grant is subject to the guidelines of the U.S. Deptartment of Agriculture's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.

It requires that each selected school offer the fresh fruit and vegetables to all its students and served in addition to the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program meal service.

The four East Cluster schools selected to participate and the amount of their awards are as follows:

  • David Hill $23,316
  • Mason $22,813
  • Robinson $19,001
  • Seiberling $34,007.
